Greece was not a country ruled by a single king, but consisted of a number of city states covering quite a small area extending from the Peloponnese.
Greek warfare was very different from their contemporaries in Asia. Long ranged and mounted warfare was very uncommon, mercenaries usually carried out this role in Greek armies.
The majority of Greek citizens were Hoplites, specializing in close quarter combat in what could be considered a still quite ritualised form of warfare. The two main powers in Greece were Sparta and Athens, both with very different political and social systems and both with a desire to rule all of Greece.

Enemies

Greeks, Thracians, Persians
